Frequenty Asked Questions

Webpage, Video or Image?

Choosing “Webpage”
does exactly as it sounds. SimpleTVDisplay will show a URL of your choosing through your FireTV app on your screen. The App will load the webpage’s code and display its content including interactive content. As an example, if your webpage is a slideshow or has an interactive carousel, Simple TV Display will load and run it without needing to refresh the page.

Choosing “Video”
will still ask for a URL, which should lead directly to the video asset. If you do not have a URL, you can upload the video to Google Drive* or Dropbox and get a public link. There are other services that will do this too, like filetolink.com. We recommend MP4 or M4V formats for your video.

*Note- sometimes it is hard in Google Drive to get the exact link to the file because of how they do their sharing structure. You need to be sure the link you enter is the actual video file.

Download Content For Offline Use
can be chosen for use of Simple TV Display when you may not have internet connection like at a conference or trade show. The app will show you how much space you have available on your FireTV device for download, and save the video to your device, playing it from there.

Choosing “Image”
will still ask for a URL, which should lead directly to the image asset. If you do not have a URL, you can upload the video to Google Drive* or Dropbox and get a public link. There are other services that will do this too, like filetolink.com. The following image formats are supported: JPEG, PNG, GIF (non-animated), BMP, WEBP.

*Note- sometimes it is hard in Google Drive to get the exact link to the file because of how they do their sharing structure. You need to be sure the link you enter is the actual image file.

An image could be linked in the “Webpage” section as well and display, but we recommend using Image as it will likely display better. If you are having trouble having an image display, you could try entering the URL of the image, through the “Webpage” selection.

Download Content For Offline Use
can be chosen for use of Simple TV Display when you may not have internet connection like at a conference or trade show. The app will show you how much space you have available on your FireTV device for download, and save the image to your device, displaying it from there.

How often should the content refresh?
Simple TV Display will only try to refresh your webpage when it has an internet connection. Otherwise it will continue to display the page as it loaded. Refreshing the page reloads the full content of the page and should be used in cases where what is displayed is changing due to new pushed data or page changes. An example would be if your page updates with new images or data which would not have been on the original page load.

Web Settings

Scale Page to Fit Screen
is a toggle that determines if your webpage will display pixel to pixel with your tv screen, or try to best fit based on what the Simple TV Display thinks it should display as. This defaults to “on” and will display your webpage

Allow remote Interaction with the Page
is a toggle that allows your Amazon FireTV remote to be used as a mouse on the page to be able to select and click around on your display.

Other Questions

How Do I Adjust My Settings?
You can use the back button or the menu button on your Amazon Fire TV remote to access the settings to change your preferences or item to display.

Typing in a url with a remote is hard. Is there an easier way?
You may want to put your url through a shortener service like bitly.com. This will allow you to make a very long URL link much shorter. This is also very helpful when linking to file links with a lot of random characters where it is very easy to get one of them wrong or when case matters. You can also use your smart device as a FireTV remote (when supported) and use the keyboard to type in your URL

This is really great. Why is it so inexpensive?
Thanks! We built Simple TV Display because we were annoyed by the lack of options in the marketplace to do a simple single service tech job. Everything is either high end content management display systems, or doesn’t work easily. We were annoyed at showing up for conferences and not having a simple way to loop our own product videos on our tv’s. So we fixed it. Tell your friends. Write a review!
